Sister is one of the pioneers of marketing to women in the Netherlands. The company was founded in 2007. Among it’s first clients were typical female oriented brands such as fashion shops and women’s magazine publishers. Nowadays, marketing to women is definitely on the agenda among marketeers, and the range of clients now also includes brands from typical ‘masculin’ sectors such as telecommunications.
About the founder Marianne van Leeuwen
Women have always been central to Marianne’s work. In 1998 she founded ‘MiepKniep’, which at that time was the first Dutch website where people could compare prices of consumer products. With the slogan ‘vriendelijke korting’ (friendly discount) the site appealed strongly to women. Marianne founded welikefashion.com in 2002, which is now one of the leading online fashion shops in the Netherlands. Marianne’s heart lies in digital media because of its numerous possibilities and its effectiveness.
What Marianne thinks
‘‘When companies communicate with their customers women are usually forgotten. Companies who take the needs and desires of women into account are decidedly more successful, and not only with women. Because: if you please a man, you just please a man. If you please a woman, you please everyone…’’
